Description
I spent some time in the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile where there are many international observatories for studying the night sky so after creating the levitating big bird with a natural punk hairstyle, I added images from one of the sky labs with falling mica bits as stars with an elephant. I just liked the shape and texture of the Chinese tea egg behind the bird as the beak would stand out against the tinted eggwhite. The steam punk aesthetic combines Victorian elegance like the ruffly lace on the birds’ dress and two-tone shoes with modern utility. The term was first coined in 1987 by author K.W. Jeter as a playful nod to the term “cyberpunk” to describe alternative historical fiction and literary visionaries like Jules Verne (2,000 Leagues Under the Sea) and H.G. Wells (The Time Machine). Sometimes diverse elements just come together in my head to create an interesting, surrealistic image in reality.
