Description
Also known as a “mermaid’s purse” this is the tough, leathery egg case that protects developing embryos of egg-laying sharks. These translucent, beautiful but empty pouches often washed up on the shores of Miami Beach when I lived a few seconds from the Atlantic ocean and always found them fascinating, admiring the rubbery texture and curved corners resembling horns. I added sea urchins, seaweed-ferns and corals to highlight the beauty of the ocean we maybe came from millions of years ago.
