Description
Yes, cats have fur, but if you are a savvy feline why not flash a violet-tinged purple fur coat to trip the lights fantastic complete with a mushroom cap? This rather intense-looking tabby is surrounded by magic mushrooms and other fungi and chrysanthumums–symbols of joy, long life, friendship, rejuvenation and good fortune. Cats symbolize self reliance, independence, intuition, mystery and spiritual protection across cultures–and their nocturnal nature and silent movement link them to hidden knowledge, magic, and unseen realms. In this work the cat is floating in mushrooms and fungi, symbolizing transformation and the bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. As they emerge overnight from decaying, unseen matter, mushrooms carry deep cultural and mythic meanings across history. They are strange organisms representing both the mystical and earthly. They are oddly weightless and can be delectable or poisonous. Some cause visions and seem magical (monks historically consumed psychedelic mushrooms like the red and white speckled Amanita muscaria to reach higher levels of consciousness). The mushroom cap resembles a Buddhist stupa, representing the enlightened mind. Mushrooms invite reflection on nature’s life cycles, the fragility of existence and the possibility of transcendent wisdom hidden within the ordinary. Fungi and cats are fantastic!
