Description
The African tulip is a football-shaped flower of an evergreen shrub with velvet-brown, claw-like buds filled with nectar surrounded by brilliant orange feathery, elaborately scalloped petals arranged in this composition with cacao pods from our grove and split-open Malabar chestnut pod exposing the fuzzy ivory-tinted kernels in soft white pulp. I used the center of an African tulip surrounded by orange and dark yellow Glory bush leaves forming “petals” with a few cecropia pods and a Pitch apple resembling a pale green mangosteen.
