In my version of Beauty and the Beast, Belle, aka Beauty will have to choose between two “beasts”, a turbaned walrus and a horned goat following her kind and pure heart to true love. In the French fairytale she is the youngest daughter of a rich merchant who loses his fortune. Her sisters and brothers abhor being poor but Beauty goes with the flow and when her widowed father’s ship returns to port her siblings ask for expensive gifts but she  just requests a rose which leads the merchant to plucking one from the Beasts castle garden. In exchange for the taking the rose Beauty must be sent to him and she falls in love before he is transformed by a good fairy into the prince he always was. The message is that true love ignores physical appearances and focuses on heart. The Beauty in this collage set in a faraway magic kingdom with mountains and a gazebo is a goat with long pink hair in a white gown with a flowing train. Who will she choose? Hopefully her own true love to find he has a kind and gentle soul within which is more important than physical looks.
